Fiber To The Home (FTTH) technology involves deploying fiber-optic networks to the subscriber’s home.
Today, it is vital to provide very high-speed infrastructures (> 30 Mbit/s) capable of withstanding users’ ever-increasing resource-based requirements and demands.
In 2013, the French government launched the very high-speed France broadband initiative, the goal of which was to cover the entire country in high-speed networks by 2022, i.e. to provide high-speed Internet access to all homes, companies and administrations.
In rural areas, local authorities took charge of this deployment by creating the Public Initiative Network (PIN).
The principle
A specialist in passive components for Data and Telecom networks, FOLAN has a wide range of products for deploying FTTH networks through 3 packages, each corresponding to a specific part of the Shared Optical Local Loop (SOLL): Central Office, Distribution and Connection.
Central Office offer
The FOLAN Central Office offer has all of the products needed to equip the optical connection node (OCN), which is the operator’s high-speed network concentration point, where the active equipment is installed.
The FOLAN Central Office package includes a wide range of terminal equipment (patch panels), as well as the optical distribution frames required for developing optical connection nodes, the converging location for all of the lines belonging to subscribers in the same district or town.
RIGA single or double optical distribution frame
At the base of FTTH networks, optical distribution frames are the flexibility points that can manage high densities of optical fibers. Their design ensures fast, simple and intuitive wiring.
NIAGARA plastic or metal pivoting patch panels
Well-suited to FTTH deployment, NIAGARA pivoting patch panels are 19” patch panels with a left pivot. They are very compact, providing easy access to the patchcords on the front of the patch panel. FOLAN has also developed a range of lightweight plastic NIAGARA patch panels with a pre-positioning system that allows it to be fastened without a cage nut by a single technician in less than 40 seconds
PORTO pivoting patch panels with PLC splitters
Well-suited to FTTH deployment, PORTO pivoting patch panels are 19” patch panels with a right pivot. They are very compact, providing easy access to the patchcords on the front of the patch panel. They can be pre-equipped with splitters or adapters and pigtails, thus saving time on-site.
Cable fan-out box
The cable fan-out box (CFO) has easy-to-use and robust fasteners that securely grip incoming cables and fan out the fibers. It comprises a lockable steel box and houses the clips and reinforcements needed to stabilize and hold incoming cables.
Preconnectorized minicores
FOLAN preconnectorized minicore cables are the ideal solution for extremely crowded indoor environments. They are quick and easy to use when connecting equipment together and make it easier to route and manage cables in distribution cabinets and cable ducts.
Dispatching patchcords
FOLAN offers a full range of optical dispatching patchcords, which are available in different lengths, cable diameters, colors and connections (SC, LC, ST, FC, etc.) and which are ideally suited to indoor connections over short distances.
X
Distribution offer
The FOLAN Distribution offer comprises the transport and optical distribution network. It groups together equipment used to distribute the fiber-optic network from the Optical Connection Node (OCN) to the Optical Connection Point (OCP), via the Optical Sub-Distributor (OSD). While the OSD is a flexibility point integrated into the residential area, to be shared by operators, the OCP is the node located closest to homes and from which the final connection operations are carried out.
Depending on constraints and the population density of the area, distribution can be either overhead or underground.
Street cabinet
FOLAN offers a complete range of simple skin street cabinets (PM100 or PM360) that can serve up to 360 homes. These cabinets can be equipped with patch panels and accessories, and can be adapted to meet the restrictions of FTTH networks.

X
Telecom pole top extensions
As part of an overhead deployment, the pole top extension allows you to deploy a layer of optical fibers on an existing telegraph pole, above the copper cable layer. It can be installed on wooden or metal poles, and can be configured in several ways depending on the available space.
X
Overhead-underground micromodule cable
The FOLAN micromodule structure makes these cables very compact, light and easy to handle. They are well-suited to overhead deployment over short distances and installation in conduits by drawing or floating.
X
Suspension clamp
The suspension accessories allow you to fasten overhead cables, reducing any restrictions on them. Several types of clamps are available from the FOLAN range depending on the type of cable and the installation requirements.
X
Cable anchoring clamp
FOLAN has a range of clamps to anchor overhead cables to wooden or metal poles. Comprised of a lashing cable and body equipped with a conical clamping system, it guarantees a good hold on the cable and thus ensures network reliability.
X
Sealed closure and draw-in box
The reinforced polypropylene HIDROSTANK draw-in boxes ensure quick, easy and secure installation as they are lightweight and easy to handle. FOLAN offers a range of sealed closures compatible with these flexible boxes and designed to house, manage and protect 12 to 288 fusion splices, depending on the model. The internal configuration can be adapted by stacking pivoting splicing trays. Depending on the model, each splicing tray can accommodate between 12 and 24 fibers.

Last Mile offer
The FOLAN Last Mile package contains all of the equipment that links the Optical Connection Point (OCP) to the Optical Telecommunication Outlet (OTO) installed in the subscriber’s home. Depending on the density of the geographic area, the OCP is installed in boxes on each floor in risers or on walls, in civil engineering rooms or on poles.
Communication box
Positioned at the entrance to the apartment, the communication box provides access to the Internet and other multi-media services. It meets the requirements of French standard NF C 15-100, which regulates low-voltage electrical installations in the country.
Indoor subscriber FTTH drop cable
The subscriber cable provides connectivity between the optical telecommunication outlet inside the household and the optical connection point on the ground floor or at the foot of the building. To overcome the installation difficulties inherent in indoor FTTH installations, it is flexible, has a discrete color and uses G657A2 single-mode low bending radius fiber.
OITD/OTO
The OTO is the FTTH network’s termination point. Its small size allows for easy and discrete installation in the subscriber’s household. The FOLAN range carries different optical telecommunication outlets suitable for all FTTH network requirements.
SC-UPC or SC-APC FTTH subscriber patchcord
FOLAN subscriber patchcords ensure the final optical link at the subscriber’s household. They are available in different lengths and are used to connect the OITD/OTO to the subscriber’s active equipment (router). Because these patchcords are so flexible, installation in confined indoor spaces is much easier and the G657A2 single-mode fiber with a low bending radius makes the subscriber’s connection more reliable and prevents fiber strain and breakage.
